Welcome to the home space for the DART Users wiki.

What is DART?

DART is the Data Assimilation Research Testbed project.  It's a software facility -- libraries, executable programs, educational materials, sample models, real observational data -- for exploring new data assimilation algorithms, using data assimilation for real data analysis, evaluating simulated observations of a system, and for learning or teaching data assimilation.  It's freely available (under terms of an NCAR Public License), and there is a small development group to help you along.

What is Data Assimilation?

Loosely speaking, data assimilation is any method of making models utilize the information from observations of the system being modeled. Good assimilations make the modeled state more consistent with the observations; particularly future observations. Effective data assimilation systems tend to make forecasts more accurate - within the ability of the model, naturally - and tend to make 'hindcasts' (the model state immediately after the observations have been assimilated) more accurately reflect the state of the system.  The DART system uses ensemble Kalman filter techniques.

Where is the main DART Web Site?

You can find it at http://www.image.ucar.edu/DAReS/DART

How can I contact the DART group?

Send email to dart@ucar.edu

What is this space?

This space is here to redirect you to the proper location.  Our web site (see above) is the best place to see what we're doing and check out our latest documentation and code releases. We also have an active DART developers wiki site which does not have anonymous access.  If you are interested in working with us, contact us at the email address above and we can give you access to the internal site.
