The REAL uses a DataRay WinCamD to monitor the position and diameter of the Nd:YAG pump beam. Below is a photo of the camera and an image from camera software that shows the laser spot. During normal operation of the REAL, the LabVIEW control software retrieves beam parameters from the camera.
