Hello all!
For the October 9th tag up we will be discussing citizen science. Citizen science means many different things so I'd like us to all browse projects linked into SciStarter to get a sense of the different types of citizen science projects that are out there. Use the project finder on the left side of the home page to search by activity or topic.
As you browse SciStarter, consider the following:
- Whether projects have been developed by scientists, educators, the public, or some combination,
- Whether projects are web-based, outdoor, local, national, global
- What sort of activities are participants engaged in (collecting data, interpreting data, defining research questions, making conclusions)
- What sorts of atmospheric citizen science projects are out there?
And for those of you who are excited to read some literature, here's a recent paper (pdf) that gives a good summary of the current state of ecology citizen science projects.
