VAPOR Project
Project information is available at: http://www.vapor.ucar.edu
WASP Award:
John worked with partners at UCSD to prepare and submit a white paper to the NSF program officer for WASP in the hope of receiving supplemental funding. If the PO gives the go-ahead a formal request will be submitted.
KISTI Award:
John attended the Korean Supercomputing Conference and CHAOS workshop in Seoul. He gave a tutorial on VAPOR to ~20 students at the KSC meeting, and presented a talk on VAPOR at the CHAOS workshop.
2.x Development:
The team continued to work toward a 2.6 release of VAPOR. Code development was wrapped up, installers were upgraded, and new feature and regression testing was started.
3.x Development:
John continued refactoring the VAPOR params database code to address numerous shortcomings such as, poor original design, memory leaks, and complexity:
- The rendering system now operates in absolute user coordinates (not shifted "local" coordinates)
Administrative:
John authored or co-authored several sections for the CISLAR and POPPR.
Education and Outreach:
John, Scott, and Samuel attended the IEEE Vis conference in Baltimore.
Tim Scheitlin asked Scott if he could provide some content that he could demonstrate at the 2016 White House Frontiers Conference in Pittsburgh. Scott modified some of his CT-ROMS visualization from his advanced user support work last year with Joanie Kleypas for Tim’s use.
Scott attended two conference calls with the PEARC17 (formerly XSEDE) Tech Program Committee. He began sorting out logistics for the visualization showcase that will be held at the conference, and was able to get two generous volunteers (Amit Chourasia and Tim Scheitlin) to be reviewers for the showcase.
John submitted a SOW for next summers SCIparCS program.
