For use in CESM with chemistry, QFED CO2 files are downloaded from NASA
https://portal.nccs.nasa.gov/datashare/iesa/aerosol/emissions/QFED/v2.6r1/0.25/QFED/
and converted to the chemical species needed in different chemical mechanisms (e.g., T1) using emission ratios developed for the FINN2.5 algorithm.
Processing Approximations
(1) A total of 19 days in 2001 were missing files (due to MODIS availability). Processing used persistence of emissions (i.e. repetition) from 2001-06-14 to fill in the dates 2001-06-15 to 2001-07-03
(2) In 2000, there were two days of spuriously high emissions: 2000-02-28 and 2000-03-25. We decided to use persistence from the previous day to correct these emissions.
We found an error with the 2016 and 2017 0.25 degree CO2 files downloaded from NASA, which was determined to be due to missing radiance files in the production of CO2 files on the NASA systems. This was corrected in March, 2025. The error did not exist in 0.1 degree files.

QFED2.6 is consistent with QFED2.5 and may be used going forward.
